An acoustic neuroma is a noncancerous slow-growing tumour on the nerve connecting the inner ear to the brain. It can gradually affect hearing and balance over time. An MRI may show changes near this nerve that could suggest its presence. Early detection allows for monitoring or treatment that may help prevent significant hearing or balance issues.
