Cardiac fibrosis

Chest

Cardiac fibrosis is a scarring of the heart muscle that can develop following injury, inflammation, or long-term stress on the heart. It can affect how efficiently the heart pumps blood. An MRI may show areas of the heart muscle with signal changes consistent with scarring. Identifying cardiac fibrosis early allows for management of the underlying cause that may help slow further deterioration in heart function.
