Cardiac hypertrophy refers to thickening of the heart muscle, often in response to long-term high blood pressure or other cardiovascular stress. It can develop gradually without obvious symptoms. An MRI may show changes in the thickness of the heart wall. Identifying heart muscle thickening early allows for management of underlying causes that may help protect heart function.
