Cardiac sarcoidosis happens when granulomatous inflammation, clusters of immune cells, affect the heart muscle. It can cause irregular heart rhythms and heart failure and may be present without obvious symptoms. An MRI may show characteristic changes in heart muscle consistent with this type of infiltration. Finding cardiac sarcoidosis early may allow for treatment to reduce inflammation before serious arrhythmia or heart failure develops.
