Carotid body tumour

Head & Neck
Blood Vessels & Circulation

A carotid body tumour is a noncancerous growth that develops at the point where the carotid artery splits in the neck. It grows slowly and may cause a painless lump in the neck. An MRI may show a vascular mass at the carotid bifurcation consistent with this condition. Finding a carotid body tumour early may allow for surgical removal before it grows large enough to involve the carotid vessels.
