Cerebellar atrophy is a shrinkage of the cerebellum, the part of the brain responsible for coordination and balance. It can develop gradually and cause subtle changes in gait and coordination. An MRI may show a reduction in cerebellar volume consistent with atrophy. Identifying cerebellar atrophy early allows for investigation into the underlying cause and management of contributing factors.
