Infections can develop in the soft tissues of the chest wall, sometimes spreading from nearby structures or following surgery. They may cause localised changes without obvious wider symptoms. An MRI may show changes in chest wall soft tissue consistent with infection. Finding a chest wall infection early may allow for antibiotic treatment before it spreads to deeper structures.
