A Chiari malformation is a structural issue where part of the brain sits slightly lower than it should, sometimes pressing into the spinal canal. It can range from completely symptom-free to causing headaches or balance issues. An MRI may show changes in the position of brain tissue near the base of the skull. Early detection allows for monitoring and intervention if symptoms develop or worsen over time.
