A chronic subdural haematoma is a collection of old blood between the brain and its outer covering. It can develop slowly after even minor head trauma and may cause subtle cognitive or neurological symptoms. An MRI may show a blood collection over the brain surface consistent with a chronic subdural haematoma. Finding a chronic subdural haematoma early may allow for surgical drainage before it causes significant neurological symptoms.
