Coarctation of the aorta is a narrowing of the main artery that carries blood from the heart to the body. It can be mild and go undetected into adulthood. An MRI may show changes in the width of the aorta consistent with narrowing. Identifying aortic narrowing early may allow for treatment before it leads to high blood pressure or heart strain.
