Constrictive pericarditis

Chest

Constrictive pericarditis is a condition where the sac surrounding the heart becomes thickened and scarred, restricting normal heart movement. It can develop after infection or inflammation. An MRI may show changes in the pericardium consistent with thickening and restriction. Finding constrictive pericarditis early may allow for surgical treatment before significant heart failure develops.
