Fibrous dysplasia can affect the ribs, replacing normal bone with fibrous tissue and weakening the affected area. It is often found unexpectedly on chest imaging. An MRI may show changes in rib structure consistent with fibrous dysplasia. Finding fibrous dysplasia of a rib allows for monitoring and management that may help reduce fracture risk.
