Gliosis is scarring of brain tissue that happens in response to injury, inflammation, or disease. It can represent evidence of prior neurological events. An MRI may show areas of altered signal in brain tissue consistent with gliosis. Finding gliosis provides evidence of prior brain injury and prompts investigation into its cause and any ongoing risk factors.
