Hippocampal sclerosis

Head & Neck

Hippocampal sclerosis is a scarring or shrinkage of the hippocampus, the part of the brain involved in memory and learning. It is often linked to a history of seizures and may go undetected without imaging. An MRI may show changes in the size or appearance of the hippocampus. Identifying hippocampal changes may help explain memory difficulties or seizure history and guide further investigation.
