Intercostal nerve schwannoma

Chest

A schwannoma can develop along the intercostal nerves running between the ribs. These are noncancerous, slow-growing tumours that are often found unexpectedly. An MRI may show a well-defined soft tissue mass along an intercostal nerve consistent with a schwannoma. Finding an intercostal nerve schwannoma allows for monitoring and surgical removal if it grows or causes symptoms.
