Jugular vein thrombosis is a blood clot in one of the large veins in the neck. It can develop from various causes and may cause neck pain or swelling. An MRI may show changes in the jugular vein consistent with a clot. Finding a jugular vein thrombosis early may allow for anticoagulation treatment before the clot extends or causes complications.
