Lung consolidation

Chest

Lung consolidation happens when the air spaces in the lung fill with fluid, cells, or other material rather than air. It can indicate infection, inflammation, or other underlying conditions. An MRI may show areas of altered signal in lung tissue consistent with consolidation. Identifying lung consolidation allows for investigation into its cause and treatment before it affects breathing further. CT is generally preferred for detailed lung assessment, however MRI may show consolidation changes.
