Mesothelioma is a cancer of the pleural lining of the lungs, most commonly linked to asbestos exposure. It can develop decades after exposure and may cause no obvious symptoms initially. An MRI may show changes in the pleural lining consistent with mesothelioma. Finding mesothelioma early may expand treatment options and allow for intervention before it spreads widely. MRI provides detailed assessment of pleural thickening and chest wall involvement in mesothelioma. CT is typically used first for initial detection.
