A parathyroid cyst is a noncancerous fluid-filled sac that develops on one of the parathyroid glands. Most are found unexpectedly and cause no symptoms. An MRI may show a small fluid-filled structure near the thyroid consistent with a parathyroid cyst. Finding a parathyroid cyst allows for monitoring and assessment of parathyroid function.
