Pleural effusion

Chest

Pleural effusion is a build-up of fluid between the lungs and the chest wall. It can develop from a range of causes and may go unnoticed until it becomes significant. An MRI may show changes in the pleural space, the space between the lung and chest wall, consistent with fluid build-up. Identifying pleural fluid early allows for investigation into the underlying cause and treatment before breathing is significantly affected.
