Pleural thickening

Chest

Pleural thickening is a scarring and thickening of the lining around the lungs. It can result from previous infection, inflammation, or asbestos exposure. An MRI may show changes in the pleural lining consistent with thickening. Finding pleural thickening allows for investigation into the underlying cause and monitoring for progression.
