Pulmonary fibrosis

Chest

Pulmonary fibrosis is a condition where lung tissue becomes progressively scarred, reducing the lungs' ability to transfer oxygen. It can develop slowly over years before causing noticeable symptoms. An MRI may show changes in lung tissue consistent with scarring. Identifying pulmonary fibrosis early may allow for treatment to help slow progression before lung function is significantly affected. CT is generally the preferred tool for pulmonary fibrosis assessment, however MRI can show associated changes.
