A thymic cyst is a noncancerous fluid-filled sac in the thymus gland. Most are found unexpectedly and cause no symptoms. An MRI may show a fluid-filled structure in the front of the central chest consistent with a thymic cyst. Finding a thymic cyst helps confirm its noncancerous nature and distinguish it from more concerning mediastinal masses.
