A ventricular septal defect is a hole in the wall between the two lower chambers of the heart. Small defects may persist into adulthood undetected. An MRI may show a defect in the wall between the lower chambers consistent with this condition. Finding a ventricular septal defect early allows for monitoring and may allow for repair before it causes significant cardiac complications.
