Cerebral microbleeds are tiny deposits of blood breakdown products in the brain, often linked to small vessel disease or high blood pressure. They are not visible without MRI and may indicate a higher risk of future stroke or cognitive decline. An MRI may show small signal changes in the brain consistent with microbleeds. Finding cerebral microbleeds prompts investigation and management of cardiovascular risk factors that may help reduce future stroke risk.
