A dural arteriovenous fistula is an abnormal connection between arteries and veins in the coverings of the brain or spinal cord. It can develop gradually and cause worsening neurological symptoms. An MRI may show changes in vascular structures consistent with an abnormal connection. Finding a dural arteriovenous fistula early may allow for treatment before it causes haemorrhage or neurological damage.
