Fibromuscular dysplasia

Blood Vessels & Circulation

Fibromuscular dysplasia is a non-inflammatory condition of the arterial lining that can cause narrowing or irregular beading of medium-sized arteries. It most commonly affects the renal and carotid arteries and is found more often in women. An MRI may show changes in arterial structure consistent with this condition. Finding fibromuscular dysplasia early allows for monitoring and treatment that may help reduce the risk of arterial complications.
