Iliac vein compression, sometimes called May-Thurner syndrome, happens when the iliac vein is pressed by surrounding structures, reducing venous drainage from the leg. It can cause pelvic congestion and venous symptoms. An MRI may show changes in the iliac vein consistent with compression. Finding iliac vein compression early may allow for treatment to restore venous drainage and help prevent chronic venous complications.
