Intracranial atherosclerosis

Blood Vessels & Circulation
Head & Neck

Intracranial atherosclerosis is a build-up of plaque inside the arteries within the brain. It narrows the vessels and increases the risk of stroke. An MRI may show changes in the vessel walls inside the skull consistent with plaque build-up. Finding intracranial atherosclerosis early allows for cardiovascular risk management that may help reduce stroke risk.
