May-Thurner syndrome happens when the right iliac artery presses on the left iliac vein, increasing the risk of blood clots in the left leg. It is often found unexpectedly on imaging. An MRI may show compression of the iliac vein consistent with this condition. Identifying May-Thurner syndrome may explain recurrent DVT and allow for treatment that could help reduce future clotting risk.
