Median arcuate ligament syndrome

Blood Vessels & Circulation
Abdomen & Pelvis

Median arcuate ligament syndrome happens when a fibrous band across the diaphragm presses on the coeliac artery, reducing blood flow to abdominal organs. It can cause ongoing abdominal pain after eating. An MRI may show compression of the coeliac artery consistent with this condition. Finding median arcuate ligament syndrome early may provide an explanation for symptoms and allow for surgical treatment.
