Moyamoya disease

Blood Vessels & Circulation
Head & Neck

Moyamoya disease is a rare condition where the major arteries at the base of the brain gradually narrow, prompting the body to form small new blood vessels to compensate. It can progress slowly and increase stroke risk. An MRI may show changes in the brain's blood vessel structure consistent with this condition. Finding Moyamoya disease early may allow for surgical intervention to improve blood flow before a stroke occurs.
