Portal vein aneurysm

Blood Vessels & Circulation
Abdomen & Pelvis

A portal vein aneurysm is a localised widening of the portal vein, which carries blood from the digestive organs to the liver. Most are found unexpectedly and cause no symptoms. An MRI may show a focused widening of the portal vein consistent with an aneurysm. Finding a portal vein aneurysm allows for monitoring to ensure it remains stable and does not cause complications.
