Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation

Blood Vessels & Circulation
Chest

A pulmonary arteriovenous malformation is an abnormal connection between a pulmonary artery and vein that bypasses the normal lung tissue. It can cause lower oxygen levels and carries a risk of stroke. An MRI may show an abnormal vascular structure in the lung consistent with this condition. Finding a pulmonary arteriovenous malformation early may allow for treatment to help reduce the risk of stroke and improve oxygenation.
