Takayasu arteritis is a rare form of blood vessel inflammation that causes narrowing of the aorta and its major branches. It mainly affects young women and can develop silently. An MRI may show thickening and changes in the aorta and major vessels consistent with this condition. Finding Takayasu arteritis early may allow for treatment to reduce inflammation before irreversible vessel narrowing occurs.
