Thoracic outlet syndrome

Blood Vessels & Circulation
Musculoskeletal & Spine

Thoracic outlet syndrome happens when blood vessels or nerves in the narrow space between the collarbone and first rib become compressed. It can cause pain, numbness, and vascular symptoms in the arm and shoulder. An MRI may show changes in this area consistent with compression. Identifying thoracic outlet compression early may allow for treatment before permanent nerve or vascular damage occurs.
