Cervical radiculopathy happens when a nerve root in the neck becomes compressed or irritated, causing pain, numbness, or weakness that can travel into the arm or hand. An MRI may show changes in the cervical spine consistent with nerve root compression. Identifying the cause of cervical radiculopathy early may allow for treatment before nerve function is permanently affected.
