Disc herniation

Musculoskeletal & Spine

A disc herniation happens when the soft inner material of a spinal disc pushes through its outer casing. This can sometimes press on nearby nerves. An MRI may show changes in disc structure consistent with herniation. Finding a disc herniation early allows for conservative management that may help prevent nerve compression from causing lasting damage.
