Discitis

Musculoskeletal & Spine

Discitis is an infection or inflammation of an intervertebral disc. It can develop gradually and cause significant back pain. An MRI may show changes in a spinal disc and the vertebrae on either side consistent with discitis. Finding discitis early may allow for antibiotic treatment before the infection spreads to surrounding bone or causes disc destruction.
