Facet joint arthropathy is degeneration of the small joints at the back of the spine that guide movement. It is a common cause of back and neck pain and develops gradually with age. An MRI may show changes in the facet joints consistent with degeneration. Identifying facet joint changes early may allow for targeted treatment to help manage pain and maintain spinal function.
