Fibrous dysplasia is a condition where normal bone is replaced by fibrous tissue, weakening the affected bone. It can affect one or multiple bones and is often found unexpectedly. An MRI may show changes in bone structure consistent with fibrous dysplasia. Finding fibrous dysplasia early allows for monitoring and management that may help reduce fracture risk.
