The hip labrum is a ring of cartilage that lines the hip socket. Tears can develop through wear and tear or structural issues and may cause groin pain or a catching sensation in the hip. An MRI may show changes in the hip labrum consistent with a tear. Finding a hip labral tear early may allow for treatment before it leads to joint instability or accelerated hip arthritis.
