The labrum is a ring of cartilage that lines the hip or shoulder socket. Tears can develop through wear and tear or injury and may cause pain or instability. An MRI may show changes in the labrum consistent with a tear. Finding a labral tear early may allow for treatment before joint instability or arthritis develops.
