The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that stabilise the shoulder joint. Tears can develop gradually through wear and tear without a specific injury. An MRI may show changes in the rotator cuff tendons consistent with a partial or full tear. Finding a rotator cuff tear early may allow for treatment before the tear progresses and shoulder function deteriorates.
