Spinal cord compression happens when something presses on the spinal cord, such as a disc, bony growth, or tumour. It can develop gradually and cause subtle symptoms before becoming serious. An MRI may show changes in the spinal canal consistent with cord compression. Identifying spinal cord compression early may allow for intervention before permanent nerve damage occurs.
