A spinal cord cyst is a fluid-filled cavity that develops within or next to the spinal cord. Most are noncancerous but some can expand and cause neurological symptoms. An MRI may show a fluid-filled structure within or near the spinal cord. Finding a spinal cord cyst early allows for monitoring and treatment if it grows or causes neurological symptoms.
