Tumours can develop in the vertebrae or surrounding tissue of the thoracic, or mid-back, spine. They may be primary or secondary and can grow slowly before causing symptoms. An MRI may show changes in thoracic vertebrae or surrounding structures consistent with a tumour. Finding a thoracic spine tumour early may allow for treatment before it causes spinal cord compression or structural instability.
