Trochanteric bursitis is inflammation of the fluid-filled sac near the outer hip. It can cause persistent hip pain and is often found in active people or those who have an altered walking pattern. An MRI may show changes near the outer hip bone consistent with bursitis. Identifying bursitis early may allow for targeted treatment to reduce inflammation and help prevent chronic pain.
