Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency

Whole Body Systems
Abdomen & Pelvis

Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency is a genetic condition that can cause lung and liver disease. Liver involvement can develop silently over many years. An MRI may show changes in liver structure consistent with liver disease from this condition. Finding liver changes associated with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency early may allow for management before cirrhosis develops.
