Carcinoid syndrome happens when a carcinoid tumour releases hormones into the bloodstream, causing symptoms throughout the body including flushing and diarrhoea. An MRI may show the primary tumour or secondary deposits consistent with a carcinoid tumour. Finding the tumour responsible for carcinoid syndrome early may allow for treatment before it causes significant organ complications.
